The 19th century in Brussels: 1896

The reader will notice that there are only a few pictures with houses built in 1896. This compares with the following years, i.e. 1897, 1898.

Two of the pictures are about history. One concerns José Rizal, the Philippino national hero. He died in 1896 but spent two years (1890-1891) in Brussels writing his book “El filibusterismo”. The other one is about Paul Struye. He was a Belgian politician belonging to the Christian Social Party. He was a defender of school freedom.
